About
Dr. Barry Browning opened Sag Harbor Veterinary Clinic in the Harborview Professional Building (now Steinbeck Park) on May 27, 2003. After 3 years working in our tiny office on the beach, we moved to our purpose-built modern facility at 28 Bridge Street, Sag Harbor. From the first patient on the first day our core values and mission have not wavered.
Imagine if your best friend or close family member was a veterinarian and you could sit down to ask them anything you wanted. Imagine if you could freely discuss the pros and cons of various logical treatment options without judgement and knowing your veterinarian will support you through your decisions. Imagine knowing that your veterinarian and all the professional staff will go out of their way to treat your pet with the utmost compassion, gentle understanding, and safety. Imagine knowing that your pet will receive the highest quality medicine and surgery available in an independent practice, free from corporate influence. Imagine being valued and appreciated as an individual client.

Dr. Barry Browning B.V.M.&S.
Although Dr. Browning was born in the United States, his father's job with a large multinational company took him overseas for his entire childhood. He lived in Luxembourg, Zaire (DRC), France, Hong Kong, and in the South Staffordshire countryside of England. It was here that Barry developed his love of riding and horsemanship, competing with the Albrighton Hunt Pony Club.
When it was time to decide what to do about college, there was only one choice. Barry enrolled at the University of Edinburgh to study Veterinary Medicine where he graduated in 1992. Though only 23, he immediately started his first job as a veterinarian in a mixed farm, horse, and small animal practice in rural Hertfordshire. After 3 intense years of 2 a.m. cow cesarians, lame horses, and packed waiting rooms, he knew it was time for a change.
Barry persuaded his Scottish girlfriend, Julie, to give America a chance and took a job in East Hampton where he remained for 6 years until deciding to start his own practice. Barry and Julie got married and raised their two children in Sag Harbor. Barry likes sailing, walking his beloved dog Buoy every chance he gets, and listening to music in the evenings with his nocturnal best friend, Scritchie the cat.
